Amber Alexander was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and her father is from Nebraska. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Meteorology/Climatology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Her fascination with weather began at the age of 11, while she was in the sixth grade.

In her own words: “I was 11 and in sixth grade, and we were studying the basics of weather. That caught my attention, and I thought it was so cool. We were watching the news at home that night after school, and the screen said, ‘meteorologist,’ and I thought, ‘Wow, that’s really neat! That’s what I want to do someday.’ I’ve stuck with it ever since. I grew up a huge Husker fan, so when I went to visit the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, I thought, ‘I can’t compete with this.'”

“By my sophomore year of college, I was practicing to be a broadcast meteorologist on the green screen. I had an internship with the state climatologist during my sophomore year of college. I was 19 years old, and I had my own little office. I felt so cool. I was doing basic climate work and was tracking temperature trends throughout Nebraska.”

While she transitioned into a new role as a full-time employee at Kinship Brewing Company in Waukee, she emphasized that she remains a degreed meteorologist. She still has a deep concern for and a love of informing people about potential weather hazards in Central Iowa. Additionally, she intends to continue educating people about the critical issue of climate change.

Amber expressed her gratitude for the opportunities provided by WHO and for the trust the audience placed in her to deliver accurate weather and news coverage.
